Costume Design Ideas
Lady Bird/Christine McPherson:
For Lady Bird's costume, I chose a private school uniform, adding other aspects to it to ensure that Lady Bird's alternativeness and individuality was displayed. I chose the Dr. Marten boots as they display a bit of her rebellious side and are different to the low-cut type of school shoes the other students would wear. The Dr. Martens are similar to Marion's Dr. Marten shoes to reflect that Lady Bird and Marion are not as dissimilar as they think. Streaks dyed in hair were a popular fashion trend in the early 2000s and also display a sense of individuality and Lady Bird's rebellious side.

Marion McPherson:
For Marion, I went with nursing scrubs as she a mental health nurse and talks about "doing double shifts at the psych hospital" (Gerwig, 2017: 72) in the scene. I opted for a pair of Dr.Marten shoes as they're suitable for her job, but are also similar to Lady Bird's Dr.Marten boots, showing that they're not as different as people and Lady Bird think, especially in terms of their personalities.
Larry McPherson:
With Larry's costume, I opted for a simple 'dad' type look. I feel as though it reflects Larry as being quite a simple, quiet man, who is a bit more complicated than appears on the surface.
